Republican Governors use union busting to strip Democratic Party

Wisconsin, New Jersey, Indiana, and Ohio are among the states facing republican governors who are taking aggressive moves to repeal the collective bargaining rights of unions that have been protecting workers for generations.

According to union supporters, the historically unprecedented republican moves against unions in multiple states are politically motivated. By breaking unions, many in the GOP believe that campaign donations to democratic candidates in the 2012 elections will result in a financial advantage for republican candidates.

“Republican lawmakers say worker pay and benefit cuts are needed to offset projected budget shortfalls,” according to the Wall Street Journal.
However, some suggest that state budget shortfalls have nothing to do with effort to break unions throughout America.

In Wisconsin, newly elected Governor Scott Walker gave nearly 4$ billion in tax breaks to businesses in January. In March, he proposed making up for budget shortfalls by cutting the pay and collective bargaining rights of public unions.
