GOP does not want voters to know what they really want to do to America

For a party that represents the views of only a small percentage of Americans, the Tea Party has taken center stage on Capitol Hill. However, recent polls have shown that Americans do not support the radical changes Tea Partiers like Paul Ryan have proposed, especially on issues like turning Medicare into a voucher program and increasing tax cuts for the rich. Rather than commit political suicide with their extreme radical views, Tea Party Republicans are beginning to hide their plans to transform the United States into a fascist, corporate run society.

At a recent press conference, Tea Party Republican governor Chris Christie (R-NJ) was asked by a reporter if he would “defy the state Supreme Court if it rules against him and orders him to restore $1.7 billion in funds for poor school districts?” According to NJ.com, Christie’s reply was ‘buzz off.” When asked about his views on evolution, Christie said, "None of your business."

Other extreme right wing republicans have been forced to back off on elements of the widely unpopular Paul Ryan budget plan after constituents lashed out at them at recent Town Hall meetings in their districts.

Many Americans are beginning to feel that the republicans won control of Congress under false pretenses and are misusing their power to promote corporate interests over public interests.

Cuts to education, health care and women’s rights in numerous states, as well as proposals on the federal level, are being offset by more tax cuts for the rich, blowing a hole in the argument that the GOP is working toward deficit reduction. In fact, redistribution of wealth plans and new policies that raise legal questions over individual rights, are adding more debt – not less.

Florida governor Rick Scott recently signed a bill that will cost taxpayers $5.8 million for random mandatory drug testing of public employees and anyone receiving public assistance. Furthermore, any savings Scott’s budget plan raises from cuts to education and health care for the poor are offset by corporate and property tax cuts.

Cases of shifting money from the poor to the rich are happening all over the country, as republicans prove that the path to prosperity will only make the wealthy prosper at the expense of everyone else. This is not what American’s voted for, but they seem powerless to stop the train wreck the Tea Party Republican’s are forcing down the throats of Americans under the guise of fiscal responsibility.

If this is what American’s are seeing from the GOP, what they are hiding is likely to be an even deeper assault on personal freedom and redistribution of wealth.

In reality, new republican laws are making the government bigger and more invasive than it has ever been before; quite the opposite of what the GOP claims to be their goal.

Tea Party threatens govt. shutdown for corporate polluters: A return to the Erin Brockovich era

The threat of a government shutdown on April 8^th, and the focus of newly elected Republicans has not been to create jobs and help America recover from the worst recession in nearly a century. The GOP and Tea Party agenda appears to be all about the destruction of existing laws so big business can benefit by legally exploiting the general population and polluting the environment.

A substantial part of HR 1 includes slashing funding for the environmental Protection Agency. “The bill also blocks EPA from restoring Clean Water Act protections for many of the nation's most vulnerable waterways, including those that feed into drinking water supplies for more than 117 million Americans,” according to the Environmental News Service.

Not only will the republican bill not create jobs, President Obama said it "jeopardize our economic recovery."

There is much more at stake than just money in the budget battle raging on Capitol Hill.  HR 1 is about turning America into a land of no rules for big business; where toxic waste is dumped into the drinking water and air, simply so corporate profits can get a boost, in addition to all the tax breaks the republicans have handed them.

This thinly veiled excuse to reduce the deficit appears to be nothing more than republican redistribution of wealth to corporate polluters. The GOP appears to have failed to learn from the lessons of the past and now they are selling the public deficit reduction snake oil. Deregulation is not smaller government- it’s less responsible government.

“House Republicans included provisions in their $61 billion package of spending cuts that would block the EPA from implementing regulations on a variety of industries”, according to The Republic.

Republicans defending cuts to the protection of clean air and safe drinking water is in the best interest of polluters, not the American public.

One would be hard pressed to find many families who favor living next to a lake or river that the government deliberately gave a corporation the right to pollute and give them cancer. Remember Erin Brockovich?

President Obama leaning toward the Tea Party agenda?

President Obama is beginning to look like a republican who is only pretending to be a democrat. On Thursday, his departing democratic congressional majority passed an extension for the Bush tax cuts for the middle class only. Incoming Speaker of the House John Boehner called the Lame Duck Congress’ swan song, “chicken crap.” 

The republican mantra has been glued to an all-or-nothing tax cut policy, which includes extending tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires, despite a recent report on MSNBC's The Last Word that says less than 40% of the American people want to give the wealthiest segment of the population any more money.

The White House response to the only bit of backbone democrats have shown in recent days was to immediately cave in on their principles and offer republicans another compromise to ease the tax-burden of the wealthy.

President Obama did not appear to see the congressional move as a victory, even if only symbolic since the Senate is unlikely to pass the measure. Instead, the president now seems ready to favor of adding $700 billion to the deficit for top 2% tax breaks.

On his path to alienating as many democrats as possible, President Obama made a great stride on Thursday. His dwindling supporters must now be avoiding thoughts of which direction he will take after the republican majority seizes the House in January. Will he become Obama the Tea Party guy?
